Place penny in sand and then add hard water and leave. 2)For students. Plastic cups full of slightly muddy fine sand. Students add hard water and stick a penny in.  This is left for several days by which time is will be solid. Compaction  E P F 30 min Students are given beakers of sediment of different grain sizes which they try to compact either by shaking or by pressure.
